Gucci Meme's Controversy

Gucci, a well respected brand launched their #tfwGucci campaign over the weekend. This encapsulated a series of fashion-focused macros poking fun at some of the more silly and ridiculous elements of fashion life created by some of the internet's most popular meme-makers. These were undoubtedly shared across social media causing controversy.
Critics have been worreid about corporate appropiation of a subculture. Many have taken to twitter to vent their feelings about the meme's scattered all over the internet. They feel the move is the brand recognising  their scores of young fans who obsessively share their images across social media, as well as a genuine attempt to celebrate the meme-makers themselves. Gucci made sure the creators of the meme's were celebrated on the Gucci instagram, posting lengthy bios of each collaborator detailing their work, motivation and agendas.
After seeing these's memes, I don't find them offensive but almost put an element of humour and irony into the fashion world which is so stern and less jokey most of the time; therefore I praise Gucci by making controversial memes as they light up and take a mockery of the seriousness of fashion.

Personal Shopper

As a lover of fashion related films, when I heard about the film Personal Shopper I was eager to know more about it. Personal Shopper is a 2016 French pyschological thriller film about a woman named Maureen who is a lonely personal shopper who starts to communicate with ghosts, especially her deceased twin brother. This really enticed me, as not only is it to do with fashion but has a twist of having the thriller element involved also. Kristen Stweart's valiant depiction of Maureen the 'personal shopper' makes the movie even more alluring as you feel a sense of empathy for her and her lack of place in the world due to the loss of her twin brother.

What I liked about this movie, is it gave you an insight into the world of personal shoppers, something I hope to get into after university; and this film made me fascinated in the job role and everyday life as a personal shopper.

Nicki Minaj (Paris Fashion Week)

Nicki Minaj decided to bare all in paris fashion week making quite a bold and eye-catching statement causing lots of controversy. She decided to have her breast out with a fashionable "nipple pastie" on it to somewhat attract the media and become the most talked about person within the show. This look not only is bizzare in several ways but caused a media frenzy with people tweeting and instagramming this ambigious look. In my opinion, I don't think it's at all fashionable nor classy and Minaj should stick to a simple ensemble without catching attention for the wrong reasons.

Trend - Belly Button Fishnets

After seeing copious amounts of images of girls wearing fishnets above their belly buttons, I gave a look at what this new, ambigious trend had to offer. Fishnets proved a successful accessory last season among skirts, dresses and jeans. In addition, the small detail of showing the fishnets over one's jeans seemed to be trending the most.

In my opinion, at first I was skeptical about whether or not this looked silly and almost wrong but  then someone challenged me to try the trend myself. Personally on me, I'm not sure whether I suit this eccentric trend and would rather just opt for a pair of fishnet socks, however certain celebrities have managed to pull off this trend as if it's a pair of denim jeans. Here are some examples.
